IRAQ UNION SOLIDARITY (SCOTLAND) CONSTITUTION


1) The name of the organisation is Iraq Union Solidarity (Scotland) (IUS(S)).

2) IUS(S) is the Scottish component of the national Iraq Union Solidarity (IUS) campaign.

3) The aims of IUS(S) are the same as those of IUS, save that IUS(S) will pursue those aims specifically in Scotland.

4) The aims of IUS(S) are to build support for Iraqi trade unions amongst trade union organisations and individual trade unionists in Scotland.

5) To this end, IUS(S) will: produce and circulate publicity material concerning Iraqi trade unions; organise public meetings; provide speakers for the meetings of other organisations; raise funds for the TUC Aid Iraq Appeal; circulate model motions in support of Iraqi trade unions; engage in other activities consistent with the overall aims of IUS(S).

6) Membership of IUS(S) is open to individuals and organisations.

7) Individual membership of IUS(S) costs £5.00 per year.

8) Affiliation by trade union branches to IUS(S) costs £5.00 per year.

9) All monies in excess of £5.00 received from individuals and/or affiliates are to be paid into the TUC Aid Iraq Appeal.

10) Meetings of IUS(S) take place at least once a month (apart from during the months of July and December).

11) Meetings are open to all individual members and to one delegate per affiliated organisation.

12) All individual members and affiliates receive at least one week’s notice of an IUS(S) meeting.

13) The date/time/place of each IUS(S) meeting is decided by the preceding meeting.

14) IUS(S) has the following office-bearers: chair, secretary, convenor, treasurer, media spokeperson.

15) Office bearers are elected at the IUS(S) Annual General Meeting, to be held in February of each year.

16) IUS(S) may be dissolved by a vote in favour of dissolution by at least two thirds of its individual and affiliated members.

17) Any funds in the IUS(S) bank account in the event of dissolution of IUS(S) will be handed over to the TUC Aid Iraq Appeal.
